Project Overview:

Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States and the next large-scale lithium mine. The project has all permits required to commence construction, which is expected to start in 2023. Engineering design and procurement of long-lead equipment is underway, with early works being coordinated. 
This project falls under the Lithium Americas umbrella of Lithium Nevada Corporation (LNC). Project site is located ~3 hours northeast of Reno at the southern end of the McDermitt Caldera in Humboldt County, NV, and ~25 miles from the Nevada-Oregon border (or ~1 hour northwest of Winnemucca, NV).  
The Project will be developed as an open-pit mining operation using conventional, continuous mining equipment. Given the soft, clay nature of the deposit, minimal blasting and crushing is anticipated. The ore will then be processed in a leaching circuit using sulfuric acid to liberate the lithium from the claystone. Following the leaching process, the lithium bearing solution will be purified using crystallizers and reagents to produce battery-quality Li2CO3. 
The Thacker Pass site has a flat and expansive terrain which allows for a very compact footprint and for future potential expansions. 
Bechtel will have responsibility for the full EPC/EPCM scope. 

Position Summary:
We are seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer for the Mining & Metals team, based in Houston, Texas. The position will be responsible for planning and conducting independent work within a global business requiring judgment with evaluation selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Devising new approaches to problem-solving. #LI-SM2

Major Responsibilities:

• Plans and conducts independent Civil work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of Civil engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit for civil works on green field and brown field projects.
• Leads the design, development, modification, and evaluation of Civil components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices (DRNs)
• Reviews and approves key engineering drawings and calculations and bid summaries
• Reviews and approves key design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders, for the project to which assigned
• Designs structures using advanced knowledge of civil engineering in the areas of hydrology, hydraulics, road design and pavement design, geotechnical and earthworks.
• Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements
• Originates and checks complex Civil engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions
• Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of personnel
• Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management
• Develops conceptual designs for Civil engineering projects or projects having
• specialized or unique requirements
• Supports preparation of estimates, staffing needs and schedules
• Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting
• Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data
• Coordinates with client representatives, as directed, to obtain their approval of Civil aspects of the work
• Conducts or leads special studies of new Civil engineering methods, materials and techniques
• Mentors Civil engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their
• professional development
• Provides input to and participates in special technical educational and training programs as directed
• Leads constructability reviews

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10+ years of relevant experience or 15+ years of relevant work experience, with at least 5 years experience in USA.
• Professional Engineer in USA.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Career-level position within field
• Recognized as advanced contributor with specialized skill set.
• knowledge of American codes ​AISC. ACI, API, etc.
• Skill in structural analysis modeling, Staad Pro, Mathcad, or similar
• English proficency
• Considered highly skilled and proficient in discipline
• Seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization, resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways
