The vision of Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) at the University of Michigan is to develop healthy, safe, equitable, and values-based fraternities and sororities that positively change and impact their members, communities, and beyond. FSL's mission is to support the development of student leaders and their fraternities or sororities through partnerships with students, alumni, inter/national headquarters, and other stakeholders to promote well-being & a sense of belonging.

Position Summary:

As a staff member in Student Life, the Community Standards and Leadership Development Manager is responsible for establishing, administering, and evaluating programs and services that support student learning and development within fraternities and sororities. This staff member will manage unit leadership programs and lead event planning, event budgeting, marketing and outreach, and evaluation and assessment efforts. All efforts are in the service of creating learning environments that celebrate diversity, foster student development, and provide leadership development opportunities.

Program Management (40%)

• Develop implementation and assessment strategies for ongoing large unit programs such as, but not limited to, Presidents Weekend, Taste of Michigan, Awards Night, and the Emerging Leaders Conference.
• Lead all facets of the leadership program design and delivery, including content development, integration of learning outcomes and competencies, budget management, marketing and outreach, and assessment and evaluation.
• Develop and implement programs in partnership with academic units, other departments, students, and student organizations consistent with unit goals and priorities to identify and recruit support for program development and implementation.
• Collaborate and provide program support for other FSL Staff, which may include co-executing programs/initiatives, shared visioning, and assessment efforts as needed.
• Support the Assistant Director in adjudicating and resolving alleged violations of university policies, maintaining confidentiality and due process.

Achievement Expectations Program (25%)

• Manage the administration of the annual Achievement Expectations Program including data tracking and program education.
• Develop evaluation tools to provide feedback and coaching for individual chapters and/or chapter leaders.
• Develop various program reports to track progress and coaching for individual chapters.
• Assist council advisors in creating and publishing FSL scorecards each semester.

Student Organization Advising (15%)

• Provide education, direction, management, and leadership development opportunities to individual students, fraternities, and sororities across all four councils to enhance student organization effectiveness. Areas to address include academic performance, physical and psychological health/wellness, risk management, career aspirations, interpersonal conflict, social identity and justice, and personal and leadership development.
• Coach, consult with, and provide direction for the chapters and general membership of various councils.
• Assist staff and student leaders in creating and facilitating activities designed to create a cohesive fraternity/sorority community and serve as a resource for their communities at large.
• Provide conflict resolution for individual students and between student organizations.
• Together with other unit staff, advise fraternity and sorority-related committees and honor societies.
• Provide resources and education to chapter alumni advisors, housing boards, house directors, and other volunteers/staff members to assist in their support of collegiate chapters, officers, and housing.

Administrative (15%)

• Identify resources, information, and education to students, their families, faculty, staff, and the greater community regarding student involvement in Greek-letter organizations.
• Participate in University-wide committees including establishing liaison relationships with other departments.
• Create regular reports (e.g. semester and annual) of Achievement Expectations or Scorecard.
• Work in conjunction with the ongoing evaluation of the fraternity and sorority community by identifying program and educational gaps to determine future needs.
• Work collaboratively with other FSL staff to develop the creation and maintenance of electronic databases used as necessary.

Supervision (5%)

• Serve as part of the team that hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates graduate assistants.
• Supervise graduate assistants in accordance with students' academic program expectations and professional standards.
• Maintain communication with graduate students' academic programs as needed.

• Master's degree in higher education administration, public policy, public health, student affairs administration, counselor, or a related field
• Minimum of two years of experience in student affairs administration, or working for fraternity/sorority inter/national headquarters, including graduate, volunteer, and/or professional capacities.

Financial/Budgetary Responsibility:

• Responsibility and oversight for a budget of approximately $29,000.

Working Conditions:

• Requires in-person work, some evening or weekend hours, and limited remote work.

Physical Requirements:

• The person in this position regularly travels to various locations on campus and certain off-campus properties. The person in this position routinely presents at meetings and events and may need to move items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds. The person in this position routinely moves through various facilities to attend meetings/events and access files or information. Travel may be required

Direct Reports:

• Will supervise one or more Student Services Assistant I temps (Graduate Student Interns).

This role may have reporting obligations under Title IX and Clery.

Salary may vary depending on qualifications, experience, and education of the selected candidate.

Relocation will not be offered for this position.
