The Teacher Assistant supports the Teachers and the Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the Teacher Assistant observes and documents children's interest and progress, and relays that information back to parents and staff. Teacher Assistant are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children's interests and needs under the direction of the Teacher and the Director.

We are looking for an energetic Teacher's Assistant to join our team! You will be assisting the head teacher with planning and implementing both whole-classroom and small-group instruction.
You are passionate about learning and love working with children. With strong creative and organizational skills, you are able to connect with individual students and develop strong relationships with faculty to create an engaging learning environment.
Daily Duties:
  • Tutor and assist students individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers
  • Supervise and engage with students throughout the day
  • Provide differentiated support for students
  • Teach social skills to students
  • Daily cleaning
  • Disinfesting of toys and other furnishings and materials
  • Lesson material preparation
  • Supervision of students
  • Reinforcer of rules/tasks/assignments
  • Tasks observations and feedback provider
  • Other duties as necessary

Duties

Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in managing classroom activities and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Support the development and implementation of lesson plans tailored to early childhood education.
  • Engage with children during play and learning activities, fostering their social and emotional growth.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding children's progress and needs.
  • Provide care and supervision for children, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Assist in behavior management and support children with special needs or disabilities.
  • Assist in the implementation of curricula activities and encourage participation by children.
  • Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, maintenance, and availability of classroom materials.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions and progress reports.
  • Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
  • Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to childcare center.
  • Follow all center policies and state regulations.
  • Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

Requirements

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • High-energy with a love of working with children
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Quick learner
  • Honest, kind, understanding, and supportive
  • Must be currently living on Kaua`i
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • An understanding of child development.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to consistently follow routines/rules daily.
  • Must clear full background check and must pass health screening.
